Crude Oil Extractor Guide

Crude oil powers plastic, fuel, and late generators. Patch 1.0.3 (Aug 11–12, 2026) is the first post-1.0 balance pass that actually makes oil bases cheaper to build and faster to run. Do not confuse this loop with the Oil Rig sea fortress — that is a loot run, not a 24/7 extractor farm.

1.0.3 extractor changes

  • Lower build cost: Crude Oil Extractor, High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor, Large Power Generator
  • Higher crude oil production speed on both extractor tiers
  • High-Pressure now counts for the “build a Crude Oil Extractor” base mission

Recost any oil pad you designed at 1.0 launch. High-Pressure is no longer a mission skip that leaves the journal stuck.

Base setup

  1. Find a crude oil node inside a legal Palbox radius (flat pad, not mid-raid funnel).
  2. Unlock extractor tech, then prefer High-Pressure after 1.0.3 if materials allow.
  3. Power with the cheaper Large Power Generator or an existing electric loop.
  4. Assign Mining Pals; keep work suitability high so the node does not idle.
  5. Belt or Transporting Pals to chests feeding plastic / polymer / fuel stations in your automation layout.

Oil Rig vs extractors

Run the Rig when you need Ancient Civilization Cores and Greater Chests. Run extractors when you need barrels every minute. Mixing both is normal; mixing their guides is not. Fiber from trees also doubled in 1.0.3, which frees early wood budgets for extractor pads.

Dedicated servers

Extractor bases leak RAM if left with invaders on. Pair this page with the dedicated server guide and consider bEnableInvaderEnemy=false plus the new bAllowEnemyCampSpawnNearBaseCamp default (leave camps suppressed unless you want chaos next to oil pads).

Frequently Asked Questions

What did patch 1.0.3 change about crude oil?

Build costs dropped for the Crude Oil Extractor, High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor, and Large Power Generator. Both extractors produce crude oil faster. Building a High-Pressure extractor now also progresses the base mission that previously required a standard Crude Oil Extractor.

Is the Oil Rig the same as a Crude Oil Extractor?

No. The sea Oil Rig is a combat/loot location (Greater Chests, Ancient Cores). Extractors are base buildings you place on oil nodes at your Palbox. Use the Oil Rig guide for the platform raid and this page for automated oil at home.

Where do I place extractors?

On crude oil nodes inside a Palbox radius with a flat enough pad. Assign Mining-capable Pals, keep a power loop (Large Power Generator after 1.0.3 is cheaper), and leave transport paths clear so oil barrels move to storage or plastic/fuel crafters.

Should I skip the basic extractor and build High-Pressure only?

After 1.0.3, yes if you can afford the High-Pressure recipe — it satisfies the mission and produces faster. Early bases can still drop a standard extractor first, then replace it.

Why is my extractor idle?

No Pal assigned, no power, node depleted/wrong plot, or transport jammed. 1.0.3 also fixed summoned Pals abandoning base work — update if workers freeze.

Does fiber doubling in 1.0.3 affect oil?

Indirectly. Doubled tree fiber cheapens boards and early structures so you can spend more Pal Metal and cement on extractors and generators instead of roofs.
